Getting "Living Well with Chronic Illness" into the hands of people who need it most

In a world where almost half the UK population lives with long-term health conditions, supportive resources are often missing from the places where people need them most. That's where #BuyACommunityABook comes in.

How it works

Every Friday, starting September 26th, you can help get a copy of Living Well with Chronic Illness to a Welsh community that needs it. Our partners at Big Green Bookshop handle all the logistics - you just need to decide you want to help.

For £20, you can:

  • Put a book in a hospital waiting room

  • Add a supportive resource to a library that doesn't currently stock it

  • Help someone navigating chronic illness find practical, compassionate guidance exactly when they need it

Each donated book includes a bookplate acknowledging your contribution and goes directly to locations where it can make a real difference.

Why this matters

"Living Well with Chronic Illness" isn't about miracle cures or one-size-fits-all solutions. It's about acknowledging the complexities of life with ongoing health challenges and providing practical tools for people to define wellness on their own terms.

The book offers guidance on self-advocacy, energy management, and reclaiming agency during difficult times, with particular attention to supporting marginalized communities often underserved by existing resources.

The bigger picture

This campaign builds on Big Green Bookshop's proven track record with community initiatives like #BuyAStrangerABook and their successful crowdfunding of "The Lost Words" into every primary school in Haringey.

It's supported by publisher Orion Spring and guided by the principle that the right book in the right place can change everything.
