The Secret’s Out: My Journey from Chronic Illness to Chronically Ill Author (Still Sick, Living Life)

Today, I’m bursting with excitement to share some news I’ve been keeping under wraps for what feels like forever. I’ve written a book!

Living Well with Chronic Illness: Write your own roadmap to healing in tough times isn’t just a title – it’s been my life’s work, both personally and professionally.

For over two decades, I’ve navigated the choppy waters of chronic illness, and for thousands of hours, I’ve had the privilege of guiding others through their own journeys. This book is the culmination of all those experiences, tears, triumphs, and hard-won wisdom.

Why This Book?

When I first fell ill, I felt lost in a maze with no map. Doctors, treatments, lifestyle changes – it was overwhelming. I yearned for a guidebook that could help me create a life that was vibrant and fulfilling, alongside, not despite my chronic illness. Unable to find one, I decided to write it myself.

What You’ll Find Inside

Living Well With Chronic Illness is more than just a book – it’s guide to writing your own roadmap to creating a life that works for you. Here’s a sneak peek at what you’ll discover:

  1. Navigating diagnosis and healthcare systems
  2. Understanding and advocating for your body
  3. Psychological tools for living life to its fullest
  4. Accessing support and building resilience
  5. Practical tips and journaling prompts to personalise your journey

This isn’t just for those with chronic illnesses. If you’re a caregiver, healthcare provider, or simply want to better understand and support someone with chronic illness, this book is for you too.

It’s crucial to understand that this book isn’t a rigid roadmap or a list of “shoulds.”

There’s no one-size-fits-all solution when it comes to chronic illness.

Instead, Living Well With Chronic Illness is a guide to help you write your own road map.

It’s filled with tools, strategies, and prompts designed to empower you to make choices that align with your body, culture, values, and circumstances.

My goal isn’t to tell you how to live, but to support you in discovering what living well means for you.

Remember, you’re the expert on your own experience – this book is here to help you harness that expertise and create a life that’s authentically yours, chronic illness and all.

The Writing Journey

Creating this book has been a process. From writing in hospital waiting rooms, from my bed, through difficult days and excitements. But through it all, I’ve been buoyed by the incredible support of my writing community, beta readers, and you – my amazing readers and community.

I owe a debt of gratitude to my visionary editor Jess Duffy of Orion Spring, my amazing agent Abi Fellows, and the teams at DHH and TGLA. Their belief in this project and their expert guidance have been invaluable.
