Ultimate List of Things to Do When Bed Bound and Bored

Bed bound and bored

Absolutely not what I look like when bed bound and bored.

I know what it’s like to be bed bound.

I know what it’s like to live with chronic illness.

I know what it’s like to be simultaneously so tired you could collapse and so bored you could cry.

Unless you’ve experienced it, it’s hard to appreciate how difficult lying in bed all day is – or it certainly seems to be hard to appreciate, judging by how many “oh, you just get to rest, I wish I could nap all day” comments I’ve heard.

(Those people really need to read my article on How to Speak to People with Disabilities. Top hint: don’t compare taking a nap with chronic fatigue. Not the same, no, not even a little bit).

Anyway, when I was bed bound my husband and mother and I were always trying to think up ways to cope (that’s how Healing Boxes started). Bed bound + goal oriented + insomnia = needs plenty of distraction/occupation.

So I’ve come up with a lot of ways to manage when you are bed bound and bored.

I’m recovering from mono at age 51. I’m also ADHD which doesn’t help that I’m stuck resting. I finished a home remodel in the middle of the fevers and kept pushing until I can barely move or even think. I am lucky to be on a vacation property for my recovery but it’s in the Everglades so critters are my company. I know I have to slow down. I have been really sick a lot from too much work. When i can I’m going to use a lot of your ideas. Thanks. This has been worse even than my recovery from my ruptured appendix 2 years ago. I waited til I had gangrene and peritonitis. Maybe one day I’ll learn to care more about my health. Anyway thanks. It’s a lonely boring time and in my highest fever I threw my iPhone in a lake. Lol. I was delirious I guess but still smiling, well part of the time anyway.
